Even fluent reciters tend to share a few recurring Tajweed mistakes. Awareness is the first step to fixing them.
1. Incorrect articulation points
Similar-sounding letters (like the various forms of 's' and 'd' sounds) are often merged. Each has a distinct articulation point that must be honoured.
2. Inconsistent elongation
Madd (elongation) is frequently shortened or over-stretched. Each type has a defined length that should be applied consistently.
3. Neglecting ghunnah
- Skipping the nasal sound where required;
- Rushing through rules of noon and meem;
- Ignoring qalqalah (the slight 'echo') letters;
- Inconsistent rules at stopping points.
How to fix them
The reliable fix is targeted feedback: a teacher identifies your specific slips and drills them with you until the correct sound becomes automatic. Self-recording and listening back also helps — but nothing replaces a trained ear correcting you live.
