If you're starting your Quran journey, Noorani Qaida is almost certainly where you'll begin. It's the time-tested foundation that takes you from individual letters to reading words correctly.
What is Noorani Qaida?
It's a structured primer that introduces the Arabic letters, their sounds, vowels and the basic rules needed to read the Quran. Think of it as the alphabet, pronunciation and reading rules rolled into a careful sequence.
What it covers
- Recognising and pronouncing each Arabic letter;
- Letter forms when joined into words;
- Short and long vowels (harakat and madd);
- Foundational Tajweed introduced naturally.
How long it takes
Most students complete Qaida in two to four months with a few classes a week, depending on age and prior exposure. Children and adults alike succeed — the one-on-one pace adapts to you.
After Qaida
Once you can read joined letters and simple words confidently, you move on to Nazra: reading directly from the Quran. Qaida done well makes everything that follows far smoother.
